Hey fellow crafters,
Quick one today - no full issue, just something I promised to deliver.
Last issue I went through the welcome survey - almost 500 of you filled it out. Bubbles came up more than anything else. Several of you named it directly: bubbles in cured resin, micro bubbles in deep molds, bubbles you can't shift no matter what you try. So here's the guide that actually covers it properly.
How to Remove Bubbles in Epoxy Casting (2026 Guide)
The short version - where bubbles actually come from and what to do about each one:
Most form before you pour, not during - wood pores, cold resin, and fast mixing are the main culprits
Sealing wood with a thin first coat before the main pour closes off one of the biggest sources - one most tutorials never mention
Warming your resin before mixing and stirring slowly costs nothing and makes a real difference
Heat gun vs. torch - both work on surface bubbles, but they behave differently and one has a much smaller margin for error. The guide covers when to use which and why the order matters
Vacuum degassing is the ceiling - nothing else comes close for genuinely bubble-free results before the resin hits the mold
Full FAQ at the end - why epoxy bubbles on wood, how to use a vacuum chamber, what to do when bubbles are already cured in
My take: The cheap fixes - slow mixing, warm resin, sealed wood - handle most of what beginners run into. The vacuum chamber is for when you've done all that and still want better.
Next RCG issue coming soon.
